A deeply rooted tradition from the rich cultural heritage of Java, Indonesia and inspired by the ethnic Arab dining style of communal eating, Liwetan is a feast of rice, fresh vegetables and an array of different dishes is spread out on top of banana leaves while friends & family gather around to eat together. This style of eating dates back over a century with origins from royal ceremonies and spread throughout Indonesia with variations throughout different regions to match local flavors and customs.

Here at Rice & Sambal we serve it on a bamboo basket lined with banana leaf.  Utensils are optional but we recommend eating with your hands for the full indonesian experience, which is, in our opinion, the best way to eat because it enriches our sensory experience, mindfulness, cultural awareness and connects you more to your food.  Just make sure you wash your hands first !

– $100 per person prix fixe only available on Saturdays. There will be no a la carte option and only the Liwetan menu will be available.

-Each Basket will be for two people, so make sure you both want the same options unless you’re ok with having all of it in the same basket, we will separate by banana leaf.

– Beverages are not included. Gratuity not included. Please dont forget to tip your server.
